Elyse Martin creates haunting encaustic paintings and unique abstracts. She is a Chicago-based artist who is also an educator. She teaches art at Jordan Community School in the city. Martin’s work has appeared in numerous juried art exhibits and she has won local and national art competitions.
Her encaustic work uses photo transfer, paint and encaustic to create powerful psychological personal landscapes. Her abstract works tend to be more colorful than the encaustic pieces but retain the haunting quality of the encaustic pieces. Using the term “haunting” here is not an indication of any darkness. Perhaps “magical” might be a more apt term.
